Principal's Corner

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to Sweetwater Elementary School. Home of the Knights. It is with great honor and excitement that I introduce myself.  I am Emily Felton, the principal of Sweetwater Elementary School.  My passion for education and supporting the success of all students has shaped me over the past 21 years.  I welcome the opportunity to serve the Sweetwater Learning Community and look forward to working with a dynamic staff, dedicated parents and involved community members. Most of all, I look forward to working with our students and continuing the outstanding work at Sweetwater.

We are a NO PLACE FOR HATE SCHOOL!!!  By being a No Place For Hate® school, we are fostering a culture of respect with a bully-free learning environment for all students.  The initiative is designed to rally the entire school around the goal of creating a welcoming community committed to stopping all forms of bias and bullying.  Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular opportunities that further enhance our instructional programs.  Some of these activities are: Jr. Beta, Student Council, Chorus, Art Club, Gracket Sport,  Math Competition Team, 4-H, Tome Reading Society, Safety Patrol, Learning Never Stops Boys Mentor Program, Safety/Flag Patrol, etc.

Most importantly, an excellent education is not possible without the great collaboration with parents. Every child will have an agenda book, which will allow teachers and parents another form of communicating.  Parents/Guardians are encourage to sign up for their homeroom teacher's Dojo which is another form of communication coming directly from your teacher and me.

We have a Parent Resource Center (PRC), which has a variety of parent resources, books, family games and other learning materials that students can use at home. For more information about the PRC and other support services for parents, contact our Parent Facilitator Dr Shalanda Watts or Counselor Cedric Slay.  We have activities planned for our parents throughout the year.  A few of these activities are:  Parent Advisory Board, monthly parent workshops, such as, Social Studies Night, Math and Science Carnival, Superhero Literacy Night, etc., Donuts for Dads, Goodies for Grandparents and observation days in the classroom.  Please come to volunteer anytime our doors are open.

Thank you for your continued support in our mutual goals in raising competent, healthy, and successful children.  - Dr. Felton
